DawaKavach: Privacy Policy

Effective date: 28 October 2026 · Developer: Wreetojyoti Ray, Kolkata, India · Contact: wreetojyoti.ray@gmail.com

What the app does

DawaKavach lets you keep a list of the medicines in your home (name, batch number, expiry) and checks those batch numbers against the public "Not of Standard Quality" and "Spurious" drug alerts published by India's Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). DawaKavach is an independent app. It is not made by, affiliated with or endorsed by CDSCO or the Government of India.

Data we collect

We (the developer) do not collect any personal data. We do not run accounts, servers or analytics that receive your information. The medicines, family names, and product codes you confirm are stored only on your phone, in the app's local storage. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes them. If you have Android's own device backup turned on, Android may include this local data in your personal Google backup; we cannot see that backup.

Camera and photos

When you scan a strip, the camera picture and any photo you choose from your gallery are read on your phone, using Google ML Kit's on-device text and barcode recognition, to find the batch number, dates and product code. Pictures are not uploaded, stored or shared by us.

Google ML Kit diagnostics. ML Kit, a Google library built into the app, may send Google limited technical information: device and app details (such as device model, Android version and app version), performance and error data, and a per-installation identifier. Google uses this to keep ML Kit working and to measure its performance. It is sent encrypted, does not include your pictures, medicines or the text read from them, and is not used for advertising. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure and Google's Privacy Policy.

Internet use

The app may download the latest public CDSCO alert list from our website. This download does not send any of your personal data.

Sharing

If you tap "Share on WhatsApp", the app opens WhatsApp with a pre-written message. Nothing is sent unless you send it yourself.

Children

The app is intended for adults managing their household's medicines and is not directed at children.

Medical disclaimer

DawaKavach shows information from public government alerts only. It is not medical advice and is not a medical device. Alerts apply to the specific batch tested, the list may be delayed or incomplete, and "No alert" does not mean a medicine is genuine or safe. Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before stopping or changing any medicine.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
